To everyone's surprise, the Pokémon Company has shut down their Pokémon TV app & site services. If you aren’t familiar with the app or site, it was the one location on the internet where you could stream the Pokémon show at high quality. Plus, the number of Pokémon episodes available in one place was incredible. Seasons ranged from the 1st to the 20 something. Some of the seasons were still not available on the site, but that did not matter; there were so many episodes available to get your Pokémon nostalgia fix, and that is what kept many returning.
The Pokémon Company announced early in 2024 that their TV app & site service was coming to an end. The following message was written on their site announcement: “Thank you to all our fans who have enjoyed Pokémon TV over the years. The Pokémon TV app and website will sunset, and the service will end on March 28, 2024. Beginning on January 8, 2024, fans will no longer be able to download the Pokémon TV app from the App Store, Google Play, Roku Channel Store, Amazon Appstore, Nintendo eShop, and Pokemon.com. However, those who already had the app downloaded on their devices prior to January 8, 2024, will still be able to watch available content until the app fully sunsets on March 28, 2024. We’ve gathered a list of places where you can enjoy the Pokémon animated series and other Pokémon content. Please continue visiting Pokemon.com for the latest Pokémon news. Thanks again for watching!”.
Don’t fret, trainer! You are still able to stream Pokémon episodes, but they can only be found on VOD (Video On Demand) platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Roku, Tubi, Freevee, Hoopla, and YouTube. You can also rent or purchase episodes via Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, VIZ. Most VOD platforms are viewable through paid subscriptions, so I am hoping that Roku, Tubi, Freevee, and Hoopla are all free for us to watch the Pokémon episodes we grew up on. Then again, it is 2024 and we all have at least one, if not all three, subscriptions to streaming platforms. Even if that is the case, many of us would have still liked the Pokémon TV app & web service to continue as it was Pokémon’s private streaming platform, free from any other media distractions.
